Virtual Social Science Research Symposium

Educational Access Institute invites high school students to participate in its inaugural Virtual Youth Social Science Research Symposium.  Prizes will be awarded for first second and third place and there will also be two honorable mention awards. Ten finalists will be chosen for their research study and innovative community development ideas.

The goal of this initiative is to create an opportunity for high school students to engage in social science research about issues related to their schools and communities and to cultivate positive change agents among youth in the community and beyond.

Through this initiative, high school students will become:

  • EDUCATED: about varied social issues affecting their schools and communities.
  • ENGAGED: in social science research and the development and execution of research-based action plans for positive social changes in their schools and communities.
  • EMPOWERED: to be active citizens and participants in their own personal growth and the positive growth of their peers, schools, and communities.

The competition will be divided into the following two research strands (please see Competition Guidelines for more information):

  1. Strand 1: Youth Leadership Development and Civic Engagement
  2. Strand 2: Youth Leadership Development and the Arts

This competition is open to high school students in the United States and Jamaica. Participating competitors will demonstrate their engagement in high-quality research with an ability to present this research professionally and effectively to a non-specialized audience.

The competition will be virtual and will require competitors to submit a video of their PowerPoint research presentation. The video presentation should not exceed 15 minutes.
